capturing light
I
am eternally fascinated with light and texture. For the art
lovers among you, you've probably noticed that many of my products
combine contrasting textures: I leave a lot of naked clay exposed
because I cannot resist the silky matte texture after the final
firing. For contrast, I will choose a bright shiny glaze, or a
sparkling crackle glaze. For pieces completely glazed, I still
cannot bring myself to have all one texture, so you'll notice that
about half of my colors have a satin finish and half are high
gloss.
Many of the vessels below have holes. These play with light in a
couple of ways: Obviously at night the candle light shines out of
the holes and creates beautiful patterns on the pot (and walls of your
house). But also, during the day, when sunlight hits your pots it
highlights all the tiny crescents of the holes, and if the pots have a
glossy glaze, the light reflects from the edges of the holes.
Pretty cool, right?
Oh, and of course my glow-in-the-dark glaze plays with light in a gloriously childish, yet elegant! way.
