So far, you've seen a the lump of clay worked to a pot, finished with attachments, carved, tuned, and sent through a bisque firing.

But there's more!  We need to glaze the pots and refire (to an even higher temperature) to achieve the beautiful & colorful finish that's characteristic of our ESP Pottery.

The Grand Tour - The Making of an ESP Pot! (Number 4 & Fini!)

Once the items come out of the bisque firing, they're prepped for glazing.

At ESP Pottery, we typically use commercial glazes that are completely food safe and dishwasher friendly.  These are applied by spraying or dipping - multiple glaze colors can be used on a single pot to get unique coloring.

Interestingly, "what you see" is not "what you get."  Chemical reactions that occur during the glaze firing create the color you get, so there's no way to be sure what any given pot will look like when it comes out of the kiln the second time.

Hopefully, you get pots coming out of the kiln that look like these bright pink prizes!

The pots are pulled out of the kiln, sorted, inventoried, and checked for any cracking or glazing problems.

Once we make sure we've got good stuff, it moves from the kiln room to the table, where it's inspected by our ace quality control Chihuahua, Candy!

And, with any luck, it makes it to the website, a show, or from our studio to your house!

Thanks for taking the tour!
